We’ve looked at 4 key trends that are changing the sector and creating a better future for healthcare.
We’re nearing the first 80 days of the new Labour government. While there were multiple points on their agenda, one was a major focus: “fix our NHS” (Keir Starmer, 2024). It’s not only the UK that is struggling with its healthcare system. On a global level, the healthcare sector is in urgent need of innovation and unprecedented transformation.
This creates massive opportunities for brands, start-ups, and healthcare providers, as there’s a stark consumer need over a want!
We’ve looked at 4 key trends that are changing the sector and creating a better future for healthcare!
Trend 01: Increased Ownership of Health
Worldwide, consumers are spending more on health and wellness than ever before but are generally not satisfied and seek more innovation.
With traditional healthcare services still under pressure from demands caused by the pandemic and an ageing population, individuals are increasingly looking to take greater ownership of their own health.
Alphabeats offers short, focused neurofeedback sessions between 8-12 minutes sessions to users relax and reset. The neurofeedback technology uses music to train users’ minds to more easily access and operate in the optimal alpha brain waves associated with a state of relaxed wakefulness.
Trend 02: The Tech Revolution
AI tools will not only be able to predict chronic and general health conditions with a high accuracy but will also aid surgical training and the administration process for health staff and patients.
Paris-based company Robeauté has developed an ant-sized microrobot that can be injected into the brain to collect information, monitor disease, and deliver medication in a less invasive manner.
Trend 03: Broadening Health(care)
Modern-day bias against race, gender and age is still very common in medicine. There are a variety of reasons for this e.g. personal or cultural bias, lack of education training, limited trials etc.
Luckily, we are seeing some shifts in care/solutions for a broader range of patients (and healthcare professionals) from all backgrounds and communities.
Platform Folx connects patients to LGBTQ+-friendly clinicians and provides inclusive community support and gender-affirming medications (such as hormone therapy and PrEP).
Trend 04: Rise of Healthcare Unicorns
The lack of skilled professionals in legacy healthcare providers, supply chain pressures, and rising interest rates are all driving the growth of the private health sector.
These companies address major pain healthcare points from costs to accessibility. Many of these businesses also work directly with private and government insurers, simplifying the process.
