An incredible yet simple idea is what I love about design, and this new Ad filter from D&AD is just that.
It is a plugin that you can install for either Chrome or Firefox and every time you would normally be shown the latest advert from Percil, Ford, football or something that has nothing to do with what your interests are, you are instead shown an advert that has earnt it stripes from D&AD.
Making that valuable time actually worth while rather than just waiting for the ‘Skip this ad’ button to appear. Interestingly this button does still appear but you are more inclined to watch the adverts as you know they are of a higher quality than usual.
This does pose a bigger question of ‘should advertising be tailored to every individual person?’ maybe this technological advancement would scare a lot of people but I for one would love to not be bombarded with the same car / sky sports ad when I have no interested in either.
You can download the plugin here, I have only had it for an hour and I’m already glad I’ve made the change!
