Congratulations to our client Next, on their recent 40th anniversary.
Congratulations to our client Next, on their recent 40th anniversary.
In 1982 Din Associates had just launched the new Next Identity and were already planning the incredible flagship on Kensington High St. The concept firmly established retail design as a force for good on the street. A year later D&P was formed at the beginning of an era of innovation that transformed retail brands.
Next in the ’80s were at the forefront of that innovation, launching a number of distinctive concepts in the next decade. The mood changed through the ’90s, and as the brand became more successful it became potentially more predictable. When we were approached in 2006 Next was a part of the fabric of the retail landscape, but perhaps had lost its ability to inspire, having let function control its identity.
Under the constant prompt by Lord Wolfson and his incredible team, we provided the spark to lift them out of their slumber and re-kindle some of the early spark.
A new Brand Identity and new Retail Experience triggered a continuous development that has lasted 16 years, with notable openings in Meadowhall, Shoreham, Norwich, Oxford Street, and the imminent opening in the Trafford Centre.
In that time we’ve seen the brand grow and grow. Quietly creating a platform for new, online and Instore, that has defined the mainstream UK market. Growing a multi-brand offer online and integrating retail partners into its real estate, to create the multi-dimensional operation we see today.
Great people remain at the heart of their success. Their team is driven. Their experience steers them through the trials and opportunities that retail brings. In this changing market, Next remains the benchmark for all around them and that looks like it will continue for some time.
Here at D&P, we’re now looking forward to our 40th year in 2023. Like our client, we recognise the value of experience but thrive on the opportunity for innovation.
