Last week I got the opportunity to see a talk with Margaret Calvert, a typographer and an incredible graphic designer. Her work includes the famous font Calvert, along with many of the road signs we see today across the UK.
She started in the 50s, designing signs when the government began creating motorways because the existing road signs were inadequate for the new speed limits.
Her talk was really nice and inspiring, it’s fantastic to see someone at her age still working, creating, teaching and educating others. She’s responsible for nurturing many famous designers, including Anthony Burril, Jonathan Barnbrook and Daniel Eatock.
D&AD always runs interesting talks, please check the website for upcoming speakers.
