In May we exhibited at the Google Zeitgeist event, after our tactile and playful installation originally showcased at the Retail Design Expo went viral online and caught Google’s eye. They requested our stand at their annual Zeitgeist conference, a meeting of global leaders, opinion formers, tech pioneers and creatives, showcasing innovative new technology. Speakers included Professor Stephen Hawking, Sir David Attenborough and Eric Schmidt.
Optimism was the over-arching narrative; optimism about how technology can improve lives, the opportunities for European businesses and culture, and what part Google has to play.
We were delighted to have our technology featured alongside The Cultural Institute ZSL / Global Impact Challenge, UNICEF, Google Translate, Androidify Me, Zeitgeist Fireplace, TESLA Google Cardboard, Google Search and Makey Makey. Not to mention having the opportunity to listen to two days of talks from an eclectic mix of some of the world’s biggest influencers.
Sir David Attenborough gave a sneak preview of his ambitious 2016 virtual reality project (with Google Cardboard), and showcased how technology will bring the natural world into classrooms around the world. Professor Hawking spoke candidly about the evolution of machine intelligence – a stark reality for us all – warning that computers will overtake humans in terms of intelligence at some point within the next century. Renowned photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand in conversation with the economist Nicholas Stern highlighted the human at the heart of the global decisions we make, and the importance of climate action in 2015. And footballing legend David Beckham showcased his major new Unicef initiative to help disadvantaged children all over the world. Another firm favourite had to be Nile Rodgers, who captivated us with an interactive talk on the evolution of music.
