Bowie: Photographs by Gerald Fearnley

Snap Galleries are hosting a month long exhibition of previously unseen photographs of David Bowie. The photographs were recently discovered, almost 50 years after they were taken.

The photographer responsible is Gerald Fearnley, the brother of Bowie’s friend Derek who was in ‘The Buzz’ and who backed Bowie in 1966/67. Gerald was also behind the album cover of Bowie’s first, self-titled, album.

The photos depict a very young Bowie and do not necessarily convey the charisma of the later, more experienced, performer, but are perhaps, for true Bowie fans, more interesting for it. The collection is very small but worth popping in if you’re passing by, or if you’re in the market for a rather pricey photographic print! Their website notes that the print run is “reassuringly small” – read: “very expensive”.

If Bowie doesn’t float your boat, on the ground floor is an – even smaller – collection of Blondie photos which we felt had more attitude.

On until 24 September, visit Snap Galleries’ website for details.
