Running until 13th May, Selfridges’ Anatomy of Luxury series hosts a different brand each week in The Corner Shop of the London Oxford Street store.

The campaign gives customers the chance to discover archive pieces, unexpected collaborations and exclusive items from some of the world’s most radical designers. Earlier this month we visited the Issey Miyake pop-up.

Issey Miyake decided to centre its residency around an exploration of natural forms shown through its signature fabrics and illustrative prints. Miyake and his team visited Iceland and took inspiration from its tranquil scenery for SS18. We saw calming illustrations of the country’s moss-covered rocks on co-ords, alongside photorealistic prints depicting glaciers and frozen landscapes on dresses.

The pop-up also provided an opportunity to educate customers about the innovative 3D steam stretch fabrics that Issey Miyake invented. The extraordinary shapes of the clothes are created as the fabric contracts into rigid structures when exposed to steam, creating origami-like patterns.
