We’ve created a brand new concept for French retailer Leroy Merlin, offering customers a complete ‘store of solutions’ for all their DIY projects. The newly-built 100,000sqft store in Le Havre, France not only offers people the materials they need, but all the inspiration, services and education to make their DIY dreams a reality.

About the client

Leroy Merlin is a French home-improvement and gardening retailer serving thirteen countries. While its large out-of-town stores have long been known for comprehensive product ranges, the new store concept has brought customer empowerment to the fore. Aspects of the concept are also being trialled in selected stores including Paris.

A bit more detail

Moving away from a promotion-driven approach, the new interiors have more personality thanks to a refreshed tone of voice, graphics and illustration styles. A large-scale deconstructed house and garden at the front of the store makes a bold introduction, showcasing a different solution idea for each room, and continues through a series of Ateliers – practical workshops specialising in a specific service or product type, staffed by artisan makers.

There’s a strong emphasis on customers testing, touching and trying DIY skills out for themselves. We added a School of DIY to teach everything from how to plaster a wall to installing decking (including separate classes especially for kids), a design library, and a homely café. For those already skilled-up, workbenches are available to hire for projects.
