Gandys in Spitalfields.

Gandys has until now only sold online and as a concession, and started out with flip flops only, but has just recently opened its first store in Spitalfields market, London and sells clothes, towels and accessories too.

The charity-led company was started by Rob and Paul Forkan, in their South London flat in 2011, as a result of the pair being left orphaned when their parents were killed in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in the Indian Ocean. They started the company in a bid to support their Orphans for Orphans foundation, a charity set up to help underprivileged children affected by the tsunami.

10% of their profits goes to Orphans for Orphans, which has already contributed to building a school in Malgama, Sri Lanka. The business has since flourished to include a wide range of apparel for both men and women.

“Gandy’s was launched as a way for Rob and Paul to combine their love for international aid and volunteer work, using fashion as a platform to do good.”

A dainty store in the heart of Spitalfields with great significance – and the brothers as the shop assistants! You can hear all about their journey on their website.
